Year 4

This term in English we will be writing biographies about a range of people including the main character from our book ‘Street Child’, Queen Victoria and some imaginary characters. We will be focusing on using apostrophes
correctly, ensuring our verbs use the correct tense and extending sentences using a range of tools such as conjunctions (when, because, if, so, but) and fronted adverbials (e.g. Despite only being 10 years old

In Maths we will be estimating, measuring and problem solving using units of measure including kilograms and grams / litres and millilitres. We will be using our prior learning of multiplying and dividing when finding
amounts of money. We will be solving two step problems e.g. Deji is given a 2 litre bottle of Fanta and a 500ml bottle of Fanta. He shares it between himself and four friends. How much do they each get?

Our Science topic is ‘Electricity’. We will be exploring what an electrical circuit needs to work, which materials
make the best switches and where electricity comes from.

In Humanities we will learn about how our local area was impacte during the Victorian era, transport and how the
world was impacted by the British Empire.

In PE we will be practising forehand and backhand in Tennis before competing in mini games for Outdoor PE. In Indoor PE we will focus on our ability to work in a team during mini games in Handball.

In RE we will be learning about Christian beliefs and Jesus, including who he is, the Bible as a source of belief and
the miracles he performed.
