Year 5

Our new topic for Summer 1 is ‘Changing Landscapes’ where children will be learning about how their local area has changed over time. They will be learning about how places, such as Lesnes Abbey, have changed since the 16th century. Children will also be taking part in Arts Weeks. This year’s theme is ‘Feelings in Bloom’ where children will be exploring emotions, responding to texts and creating art using a range of printing techniques.

In PE, children have a very exciting opportunity to take part in the Charlton Athletic ‘Joy of Movement’ programme. This involves children learning about the physical and mental benefits of exercise; they will also learn some great new physical games they can play together.

In Science, children will be learning about the life cycles of a range of animals and plants. They will dissect plants, allowing them to learn the scientific names of each part.

In RE, children will be expanding their knowledge about Buddhism. They will be learning about the Dharma, why Buddha is a significant figure and how Buddhist stories illustrate Buddhist values.

If you have any further questions about the content of the Year 5 curriculum please contact the Year 5 Team Leader, Miss Haigh, who will be more than happy to answer any questions.
