This term in English inspired by Matt Goodfellow's award-winning novel The Final Year, the children will be writing their own reflective monologues about their final year at Bannockburn Primary School. Through this unit, they will explore how authors convey emotions and engage readers using a range of literary techniques, including repetition, sentence fragments and symbolic language. We look forward to seeing the children draw upon their own experiences and memories to create powerful and meaningful pieces of writing.

In Maths the children will be developing their understanding of prime numbers and prime factorisation. They will also be taking part in the Pay It Forward initiative as part of our Maths Investigation Week, applying their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills to real-life contexts.

In Reading pupils will continue to develop their reading skills through texts that support learning across the curriculum. They will learn more about light, the human eye and influential figures such as Lewis Latimer. Towards the end of the term, the children will also explore performance poetry, considering how poets use language, rhythm and expression to engage their audience.

This term in Science, our topic is Light. The children will explore how light travels in straight lines, investigate how the human eye works and discover the fascinating rules of reflection, including how the angle at which light hits a surface affects the angle at which it is reflected.

In RE, the children will explore the themes of grief and loss in an age-appropriate and sensitive way. They will learn about different ways people remember, celebrate and commemorate the lives of loved ones, while recognising that everyone experiences and responds to loss differently. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns or queries regarding this.

Following Arts Weeks, the children will use collage techniques to create self-portraits, exploring how different materials, textures and colours can be used to express their individuality.

For Humanities, in Geography, the children will explore climate change around the world and use data to create and interpret climate graphs, helping them to identify patterns and trends.
